Pirates Notch First Victory!

After an 0-3 start, the Angry Pirates officially got off the schnide this past Tuesday night, winning the second game of a double-header for their first victory of the season. The Pirates (1-3) dominated the silver bullets from start to finish lead by a stellar pitching performance from JD and balanced hitting throughout the lineup.

Manager Mike Marici was certainly pleased with the teams performance, especially with the play of 3 young players called up earlier in the day from the Pirates minor league affiliate, The Itchy Pickles out of Bellarie, TX. Marici added, "These young guys not only bought some energy, emotion, and talent to this team... but they supplied beer as well!". It is unclear at this point if these players will remain with the Pirates, but as of last night they were back with the Pickles in Bellaire.

The Angry Pirates will look to keep the mometum going with a double header on 6/10/2008, facing the 1-3 Rebels in game 1 and the 4-1 George Jetsons in game 2. G-Money Jason Giles is slated to pitch in game #1 and according to manager Mike Marici, he is fired up for this one, "G-Money is still searching for his first win of the season and thats been frustrating for him. The defense hasn't been very good behind him to the point where he has threatened to donkey punch a few teammates. I told him to hang in there and maybe we can stay in this thing long enough to give all the doubters out there a nice big shit burger!".

It should be a beautiful night under the lights at Gilruth tomorrow and the Angry Pirates are hoping to be back at a .500 clip by night's end!

Cuevas Out For Season

Just a mere two weeks before opening day for the Angry Pirates, starting shortstop Chuck Cuevas will be out for the entire 2008 season with a torn meniscus in his knee. Cuevas, who is no stranger to severe injuries in the bathroom, took a terrible tumble in the shower injuring his left knee. An MRI Monday revealed the tear and Cuevas will now miss the season while recovering and undergoing rehab.

"I dont know why or how it happened," Cuevas said. "I bent over to scrub one of those hard-to-reach places and the next thing I knew, I was on the floor in pain."

The Angry Pirates, who had Cuevas pegged to play shortstop will now have to juggle the lineup and make the necessary changes. Manager Mike 'Ozzie' Marici did not seem to pleased when questioned about his lineup,

"Right now everyone in Houston is making lineups for us - call up this guy, callup that guy" Marici said in a profanity-laced interview on Tuesday morning.

"People think that becuase we lost Cueveas we will play like $hit. We were a good team last year and we will be this year with or without Cuevas. If people dont believe in us, F@ck them! As long as every Angry Pirate thinks we can get this done, thats all that matters!"

When asked about the tendency of Cuevas and the injury bug Marici responded, "I dont really now how this stuff keeps happening to him. He is like a f@cking soccer player... you breathe on him funny and he is out for two weeks. I guess it could be worse; its not like this guy is lying about his age or has anal fissures disease! We are sad to lose him for the year, but we need to move on."

It is unclear at this time who will play short when the Pirates open up regular season play on May 20th but the defensive presence and bat that Cuevas brings to the lineup will surely be missed.

Everyone here that is part of the Angry Pirates Softball Organization wishes Cuevas a speedy recovery and quick return to the diamond!
